Schumacher-Cawley, a former Penn State player and two-time All-American, became the first female head coach to win an NCAA women’s volleyball title when her team secured the championship in December 2024. Under her leadership, the Nittany Lions finished the season with a 35-2 record.Â

In October 2024, Schumacher-Cawley announced her breast cancer diagnosis. Despite undergoing chemotherapy, she continued to coach the team, demonstrating resilience and dedication. She completed her chemotherapy treatments earlier this month.Â
