Ohio State Promotes Brian Hartline to Offensive Coordinator After Chip Kelly’s Departure
Ohio State football has found its new offensive coordinator following the departure of Chip Kelly to the Las Vegas Raiders. Head coach Ryan Day has decided to promote wide receivers coach Brian Hartline, a former Buckeyes standout, to take over the role and lead the offense moving forward.
Hartline, who has been instrumental in developing top-tier wide receivers at Ohio State, will now take full control of the offensive play-calling. He has played a key role in recruiting and mentoring stars like Marvin Harrison Jr., Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and Emeka Egbuka, all of whom have made a significant impact in college football and the NFL. His latest gem, freshman wideout Jeremiah Smith, is expected to be another dynamic playmaker under his guidance.
A Buckeyes alumnus himself, Hartline played at Ohio State from 2006 to 2008 before being drafted in the fourth round of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins. He enjoyed a productive NFL career, recording two 1,000-yard receiving seasons before transitioning into coaching. In 2017, he returned to Columbus as an offensive quality control assistant and has since risen through the coaching ranks without ever leaving the Buckeyes program.
With his promotion, Hartline steps into one of the most high-profile coordinator roles in college football. He will be tasked with maintaining Ohio State’s offensive dominance and leading the Buckeyes toward their goal of securing back-to-back national championships—something the program has never accomplished.
