Boston Celtics Eye Potential Buyout Target as Bulls Waive Torrey Craig
The Boston Celtics may have a new opportunity to strengthen their roster following the Chicago Bulls’ decision to waive Torrey Craig. While the Celtics have stayed out of recent blockbuster NBA trades, they could still benefit from the Bulls’ roster shakeup after the team sent Zach LaVine to the Spurs and Kings in a three-team deal. With three new players arriving in Chicago and only one departing, the Bulls had to make cuts, leading to the release of Craig and Chris Duarte.
Craig, a 6-foot-5 wing, has been sidelined since December 30th due to an ankle injury but was nearing a return before being let go. Known for his defensive versatility and reliable three-point shooting, Craig has shot over 39% from the field in the past three seasons. His skill set could make him a valuable addition to the Celtics, especially as they explore potential trades involving reserve wing Jaden Springer to manage their luxury tax situation.
Despite playing just nine games for the Bulls this season, Craig brings significant playoff experience, having appeared in 75 postseason games since 2018, including multiple starts with the Suns and Nuggets. His ability to contribute in high-pressure situations could make him a sought-after option on the buyout market.
For Boston, adding depth on the perimeter is a potential priority. Outside of Sam Hauser and Payton Pritchard, the Celtics’ bench wings and guards have struggled with consistent shooting. With Springer, Jordan Walsh, and Baylor Scheierman underwhelming in limited roles, Craig’s experience and shooting ability could provide a much-needed boost.
While multiple teams will likely pursue Craig, the Celtics will continue exploring their options as the trade deadline approaches. If Boston opts for minimal roster changes, Craig remains a player to watch as a potential late-season acquisition.
