Sad news: Fired Bears Coach Matt Eberflus ‘Prime Candidate’ to Become Cowboys’ DC.

Matt Eberflus, recently dismissed as the head coach of the Chicago Bears, has quickly emerged as a strong candidate to fill the defensive coordinator position with the Dallas Cowboys. Eberflus, known for his defensive expertise and previous success as a coordinator, is seen as a prime option to enhance the Cowboys’ already formidable defense under head coach Mike McCarthy.

Eberflus was hired by the Bears in 2022 after serving as the defensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts, where he was widely recognized for revitalizing the Colts’ defense and creating an aggressive, disciplined unit. His tenure with the Bears, however, was marked by struggles, culminating in his firing after a disappointing 3-14 season in 2024. Despite the team’s overall struggles, Eberflus’ defensive schemes remained one of the few consistent bright spots during his time in Chicago.

Dallas, with its elite defensive roster featuring stars like Micah Parsons and Trevon Diggs, is looking for a new defensive coordinator after the departure of Dan Quinn, who accepted a head coaching position elsewhere. The Cowboys’ defense, which has been one of the NFL’s most dominant in recent seasons, could benefit from Eberflus’ aggressive approach and expertise in developing young talent.

Sources close to the Cowboys organization have hinted that Eberflus’ reputation for building tough, disciplined defenses could make him an ideal fit to help lead Dallas’ defense into the next season and beyond.
