Breaking news: Clemson Universityhas officially announced the hiring of Wes Goodwin as the team’s new defensive coordinator.

Clemson University has officially announced the hiring of Wes Goodwin as the team’s new defensive coordinator, following the departure of Brent Venables to Oklahoma. Goodwin, who has been with Clemson since 2015, previously served as the team’s linebackers coach and held various defensive assistant roles. His promotion comes after a strong season where he played a key part in the Tigers’ defensive success, especially during their 2021 campaign. Goodwin’s deep knowledge of the defensive scheme and his familiarity with the players were significant factors in his elevation to the top position.

Goodwin has been a rising star in the coaching ranks, known for his sharp football mind and ability to develop talent. During his time as linebackers coach, he helped mold several standout players, including All-American linebacker Trenton Simpson. As a defensive coordinator, Goodwin will now oversee all aspects of the defense, continuing the aggressive, fast-paced defensive philosophy that Clemson has built its reputation on.

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney expressed his confidence in Goodwin, highlighting his leadership skills, work ethic, and dedication to the program. Swinney believes that Goodwin is the right fit to lead the Tigers’ defense into the future. With a proven track record and a deep understanding of the team’s culture, Goodwin is expected to maintain the high standards of defensive excellence that have defined Clemson football for years.
