Everton eye January move for a top Ajax star defender …. following transfer development..
Everton is actively pursuing Ajax defender Devyne Rensch, according to reports from the Netherlands. The 21-year-old right-back, whose contract expires this summer, has impressed with 24 appearances this season. His performances, coupled with his contract situation, have attracted interest from multiple clubs, including Everton, Marseille, and Napoli.
Dutch outlet Algemeen Dagblad reports that there is significant interest in Rensch, who is unlikely to extend his stay at Ajax. This January transfer window presents the club’s last opportunity to secure a transfer fee. AS Roma has already made a €5 million bid, which Ajax rejected, indicating Everton would need to exceed this offer to sign him.
Ajax director Alex Kroes hinted at the possibility of a transfer, stating, “We have tried to extend his contract, but so far, it hasn’t worked. While we aim to keep him short-term for Champions League qualification, selling him could bring in a substantial fee.”
Currently, Everton has Séamus Coleman and Nathan Patterson as their right-back options. With Coleman’s contract expiring in 2025, Rensch could provide a long-term solution. However, the Toffees face stiff competition to secure the Dutch international’s signa
ture.
