Helio Castroneves Joins Trackhouse Racing for the 2025 Daytona 500

Four-time Indy 500 champion Helio Castroneves is gearing up to make his NASCAR Cup Series debut at the 2025 Daytona 500. The 49-year-old Brazilian will race for Trackhouse Racing Team, driving the No. 91 Chevrolet at Daytona International Speedway, marking a significant milestone in his illustrious career.

Trackhouse Racing, co-owned by Justin Marks and Pitbull, has been confirmed as Castroneves’ destination for the 67th edition of the “Great American Race.” This announcement comes after years of speculation and anticipation, with Castroneves openly expressing his ambition to compete in the Daytona 500. While the team previously refrained from fielding a third entry at this event, the opportunity has materialized thanks to Trackhouse’s innovative PROJECT91 initiative.

Launched in 2022, PROJECT91 aims to provide globally renowned drivers with a platform to participate in select NASCAR races. The program has already proven successful, with Shane van Gisbergen securing a historic debut victory in the 2023 Chicago Street Race. Now, the initiative expands to Daytona 500, enabling Castroneves to bring his racing prowess to the NASCAR stage.

However, Castroneves’ inclusion in the race isn’t guaranteed under NASCAR’s charter system. With 36 chartered cars already locked into the event and only four open spots available, as many as 10 drivers are expected to vie for these coveted positions. Castroneves, though, benefits from NASCAR’s updated rules, which reserve a provisional spot for a “world-class driver.” If he doesn’t secure a spot through traditional qualifying, the grid may expand to 41 cars—a rare occurrence not seen in recent years.

Fans are eagerly awaiting the action-packed qualifying rounds, with single-car qualifying scheduled for February 12, followed by the Bluegreen Vacations Duel races on February 13. The Daytona 500, set for February 16, promises a thrilling showcase of talent and determination as Helio Castroneves aims to leave his mark in NASCAR’s premier series.
