New York Yankees have moved on quickly after losing Soto; could Sasaki be next?

The New York Yankees have wasted no time adapting after missing out on Juan Soto, who signed a record-breaking $765 million, 15-year deal with the Mets. Yankees GM Brian Cashman shifted focus to familiar territory, acquiring Cody Bellinger, whose father also played for the team.

Key Offseason Moves

Within just 10 days, the Yankees:

Signed left-hander Max Fried to an 8-year, $218 million deal.

Acquired closer Devin Williams from the Brewers.

Traded for former NL MVP Cody Bellinger from the Cubs.

Additionally, Cashman revealed the Yankees have been invited to meet with 23-year-old Japanese pitching phenom Roki Sasaki, who will be eligible to sign with MLB teams in January.

Roki Sasaki in the Spotlight

Sasaki, one of the world’s most promising pitchers, will be subject to MLB’s international amateur signing rules due to his age. The Yankees have $5.3 million available in their signing bonus pool to pursue him.

“We’re thrilled for the opportunity to bring a talent like Sasaki to Yankee Stadium,” said Cashman.

Cody Bellinger’s Return to Pinstripes

Bellinger, who can play outfield or first base, signed a two-year, $52.5 million deal with a player option for 2026. He follows in his father’s footsteps, as his dad played for the Yankees from 1999-2001.

Bellinger batted .266 with 18 homers and 78 RBIs in 130 games this year. Despite past struggles, Yankees manager Aaron Boone is optimistic about his potential. “He’s a valuable player who could thrive in our ballpark,” Boone said.

Bellinger expressed his excitement on Instagram, saying, “Honored to wear the pinstripes, ready and excited to get to work!”

Yankees’ Closing Role Solidified

Devin Williams is expected to take over as the Yankees’ primary closer, though Luke Weaver will also have opportunities. Jonathan Loáisiga is anticipated to return by late spring following Tommy John surgery.

The Yankees are building momentum this offseason, with Cashman and Boone confident in the moves made so far. Could Sasaki be the next big addition to their ro

ster? Fans will have to wait and see.
