Could Lynn Bowden Jr. Pull Off the Ultimate Recruitment and Bring Zachariah Branch to Kentucky?
Lynn Bowden Jr., one of Kentucky’s most versatile football players, continues to show unwavering support for his alma mater. Known for excelling as both a wide receiver and quarterback during his time with the Wildcats, Bowden took to social media to recruit Zachariah Branch, one of the top names in the NCAA transfer portal.
“Come to UK,” Bowden tweeted, tagging Branch.
Branch, a 5-star recruit out of high school, has established himself as a dynamic player at USC. This past season, he recorded 47 receptions for 503 yards and demonstrated his skills as a return specialist, racking up 179 total return yards on punts and kickoffs. Reports suggest Branch could command one of the largest NIL deals ever for a wide receiver.
Despite Bowden’s recruitment efforts, there’s little evidence to suggest Kentucky is a serious contender for Branch’s talents. Branch didn’t consider the Wildcats during his initial recruitment, and transfer portal insiders have not listed Kentucky as a potential destination. According to Pete Nakos of On3.com, the schools to watch are Michigan, Florida, Miami, Oklahoma, Georgia, and Louisville.
Branch isn’t entering the portal alone—his brother Zion, a safety for USC, is also looking for a new school. Zion recorded 19 tackles and one sack this past season, and the brothers are reportedly seeking to transfer as a package deal. Landing both players would be a massive win for any program.
Bowden’s social media efforts raise the question of whether he has any personal connection with Branch. However, no known ties exist between the two. It’s likely Bowden is simply cheering for his former team and hoping his influence could somehow sway the talented receiver to join the Wildcats.
Adding Branch would be a game-changer for Kentucky football, but as things stand, the odds appear slim. Still, Bowden’s enthusiasm exemplifies his ongoing commitment to the program that helped launch his career.
