Jeremy Pruitt Slaps NCAA With $100 Million Lawsuit, Claims Tennessee Worked With Them To Get Him Fired
Former Tennessee Volunteers head football coach Jeremy Pruitt filed a lawsuit against the NCAA on Wednesday, seeking $100 million in lost wages.
Pruitt claims the NCAA “conspired with Tennessee” to make him a “scapegoat” following an investigation into improper payments that led to his dismissal. The lawsuit, filed in Dekalb County, Alabama, asserts that Tennessee was already paying student-athletes before he took over as head coach. He also argues that the infractions that led to his firing are now considered legal under NCAA rules.
According to the lawsuit, Pruitt informed then-athletic director Philip Fulmer about the payments, and Fulmer assured him the matter would be handled. As reported by OutKick, Pruitt alleges that after he received a “show cause” penalty, the NCAA and Tennessee reached a deal allowing the university to pay a fine roughly equal to the severance he was owed.
