Carter Starocci’s Shocking Position Change: Nittany Lion Wrestler Moves Up to 184 Pounds
University Park, PA – In a surprise move, Penn State’s Carter Starocci has announced that he’s moving up to 184 pounds, effective immediately. The two-time NCAA champion had previously competed at 174 pounds, where he dominated the competition.
Starocci cited a desire for a new challenge as the reason for his decision. “I feel like I’ve accomplished everything I set out to do at 174 pounds,” he said. “Moving up to 184 will push me to new heights and force me to adapt to a new style of wrestling.”
The move is seen as a bold one, as Starocci will now face stiffer competition in the 184-pound weight class. However, Penn State head coach Cael Sanderson expressed confidence in his wrestler’s ability to succeed.
“Carter’s a special talent, and I have no doubt he’ll excel at 184 pounds,” Sanderson said. “He’s got the strength, technique, and mental toughness to compete with the best of the best.”
Starocci’s first test at 184 pounds will come at the upcoming NCAA championships, where he’ll look to become a three-time national champion.
