STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Penn State wrestling fans now have clarity as four-time NCAA Champion Aaron Brooks has officially announced his decision regarding his future with the program.
Brooks, a cornerstone of the Nittany Lions’ dynasty under head coach Cael Sanderson, has confirmed he will be leaving the Penn State wrestling program following the conclusion of the 2024–25 season to pursue his Olympic and professional wrestling goals full time.
In a statement released Monday, Brooks said:
> “Wrestling for Penn State has been the honor of a lifetime. I’ve grown tremendously as a wrestler and a man during my time here. After much prayer and reflection, I’ve decided to take the next step in my journey and pursue Olympic gold and other opportunities beyond the NCAA.”
Brooks, a three-time NCAA Champion at 184 pounds and most recently at 197, has been an instrumental part of Penn State’s continued dominance on the national stage. His departure marks the end of an era for the Nittany Lions, though the program remains stacked with talent and depth.
Coach Sanderson praised Brooks’ contributions:
> “Aaron has been a phenomenal leader, competitor, and ambassador for Penn State wrestling. We’re incredibly proud of him and excited to see what’s next in his journey.”
Brooks is expected to shift his focus to freestyle wrestling with Team USA, with eyes on the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
