Bregman, who will turn 31 in March, posted solid numbers last season with a .260 batting average, 26 home runs, and 75 RBIs. Though the Houston Astros were previously favored to retain Bregman, the Yankees’ aggressive spending strategy might give them the upper hand in a competitive market that includes interest from the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers, led by Bregman’s former manager A.J. Hinch, could struggle to keep up with the Yankees in a potential bidding war.
Acquiring Bregman wouldn’t limit New York’s options; they could still target an outfielder through trades or free agency. Players like Cody Bellinger remain on their radar, and several left-handed hitters are still available. With funds unspent from the failed Soto negotiations, the Yankees appear ready to continue making big moves this offseason.
